If you only just started learning Dutch, a 600 page book may be too ambitious a project to embark on. Magazines offer a great and fun way to practice your reading skills and enhance your vocabulary.
Collective subscriptions: The 'Leesmap'
In the Netherlands, the so-called
'Leesmap' offers a cheap way to read a lot of magazines without having to subscribe to each one of them. A 'leesmap' (reading folder) lets you 'rent' a collection of magazines of your choice. You will receive it weekly and you get to keep it for a limited amount of time. This collective subscription is extremely popular; over 200,000 housholds receive the Leesmap.
Trial subscriptions (proefabonnementen)
Below, you can find virtually every Dutch magazine in existence. Just browse through the categories to see if there is something of your interest. For each magazine, you will be given a detailed description in Dutch.
If you would like to get a trial subscription, you can order one through this website (in co-operation with
123Tijdschrift). This way, you will not only be the happy recipient of a trial subscription, you will also be sponsoring this website!
