Hallo en welkom bij Schatkist, de podcast om je woordenschat te vergroten.

In each podcast we will describe the uses of one or two words. First Joke will pronounce the word for us and then we will give some examples of how to use it. --EetSmakelijk

Es: Today we will learn a very important phrase. This phrase is “How are you?”

Joke, could you please tell us how to say “How are you?” in Dutch?

Joke: Hoe gaat het met jou?

Es: This literally means: how does it go with you?

The easiest answer to this question is ‘good’ or ‘fine’:

Joke: Goed.

Es: Or, if things are going great:

Joke: Geweldig!
Es: Of course, there are also days when you are not doing so well. Then you can say:

Joke: Niet zo goed.

Es: This means ‘not so great’. Here’s how to say ‘bad’:

Joke: Slecht.

Es: Of course, if you ask somebody this question you’re going to get the same question in return:

Joke: En met jou?
Now for a conversation:

Es: Hallo Joke, hoe gaat het met jou?

Joke: Goed en met jou?

Es: Geweldig!

Dit was Schatkist. Tot de volgende keer!
