Past participles are used in the perfect tense and the passive voice.

There are three verbs that can be connected with a past participle: hebben and zijn for the perfect tense and zijn and worden for the passive voice.

hebben to have Loes heeft het boek gelezen Loes has read the book
zijn to be Mieke is op tijd gekomen Mieke has come on time
worden to become Martijn wordt verwend Martijn is (being) spoiled
