In English, the present participle is formed by stem + '-ing', e.g. working, sleeping, eating. This form is used in a variety of grammar constructions.

In Dutch, the present participle is formed by:

It is, however, only used as an adjective or adverb.

Used as an adjective, it sometimes gets an additional -e.

een werkend stel a working couple
vertrouwend op trusting in
een lopende rekening a current account
