Perhaps the most asked question I get that is not related to the Dutch language: What is my profession?

I am not a linguist but I have always taken a great interest in grammar. I suppose you could call me an amateur linguist.

So what is my profession?

I live and work in This is a web link, which will open a new browser window.Gent, Belgium. I am responsible for the screening & orientation of unemployed immigrants. I work in two different projects that are both sponsored by the This is a web link, which will open a new browser window.European Social Fund and the This is a web link, which will open a new browser window.Flemish Job Centre.

Where I live

I was born and raised in the This is a web link, which will open a new browser window."Rivierenbuurt" a quarter in the south of This is a web link, which will open a new browser window.Amsterdam, the This is a web link, which will open a new browser window.Netherlands. I spent most part of my life in Amsterdam, which I believe is one of the best cities to live in. I realize I am seriously biased.

Throughout the years, I have travelled to different countries and met a lot of nice people from all over the world. One of them is my partner, whom I met on a trip to This is a web link, which will open a new browser window.Budapest. I always thought of myself as a global citizen and somehow imagined myself moving to an exotic country some day. That country turned out to be This is a web link, which will open a new browser window.Belgium, two hours away from Amsterdam. For a native Dutch, not as exotic as Ecuador or Burma but it certainly was an excellent choice! With Gent, I think I have picked the best place to live in Belgium but then again, I am probably as biased about my new hometown as I am about Amsterdam. Gent really is a city one easily gets attached to.
