English version by Bieneke Berendsen :: other languages
The verb zijn is used in more different ways than any other verb. As an Internal link independent verb, it functions as the Internal link link verb 'to be'. Further, it is often used as the Internal link auxiliary verb before a past participle.

simple present
simple past
ik ben I am ik was I was
je bent you are je was you were
hij is he is hij was he was
we zijn we are we waren we were
jullie zijn you are jullie waren you were
ze zijn they are ze waren they were
past participle: geweest auxiliary verb for pp: zijn

Note that the examples above give you the unstressed Internal link personal pronouns. Some pronouns change when they are stressed in a phrase: je/jij, we/wij, ze/zij (both singular and plural).
