Guess what?  It has happened again.  Dutch is turning into a very useful language for me to be learning!!  : D My husband and I are having Nasi Goreng for lunch.  The zakje of seasoning mix came with complete instructions --- in Dutch and Arabic.  Hehe.  No Engels at all. Maar ik was able to puzzle ...

Ja, Quetzal is correct.  Spek en alles delen van varkensvlees verboden zijn.  (Bacon and all parts from pork are forbidden.)

Maar er zijn veel andere heerlijk eten(s?) hier.  Ik vind het eten hier erg lekker.

(Hoewel ik wil graag een beetje stukje het spek......)

Killing Aphids - Another Reason to Learn Dutch

As an American, I am frequently mocked for trying to learn Dutch, since all Dutch people speak excellent English.  Well, hahaha to the mockers!  : D I just recently moved to the country of Qatar (as many of you forum members know). Sadly, a lovely flowering bush in my new yard is totally infested wi...

So sad -- but so moving.  This is the first time I've ever read something in a different language and felt moved to tears.  Thanks for sharing ES!

I'd like to try out for a potential actual speaking part in the next show.   :D

When you decide on the audition requirements, please let me know.

I found a very helpful (used) book on the internet for 75 cents (plus shipping of course -- and without the tapes or cd) -- but for that price I am not complaining!  :D

It is the Dutch book from the Teach Yourself series.  The authors are Gerdi Quist & Dennis Strik.

Good luck!

zeg dat wel

I've come across the phrase "zeg dat wel" several times in my reading now -- but I still don't think I fully understand it.  Would someone be so kind as to fill in the gaps in my knowledge? In one book it was translated as: "you don't say" In another it was translated as: "indeed you have" Literally...

My translations would get you laughed at.  However, an authentic Dutch person told me once that "Leuk je weer te zien" means "Nice to see you again".

Good luck with the visits.

I'm sure one of our more qualified forum members will post soon with good translations for you!   :)

Natuurlijk je bent wereldberoemd in Nederland!!   (Someone told me once this is a silly saying in The Netherlands: If something is "world-famous in The Netherlands," it might not really be that famous.....) However, I think you are very special ES, and deserving of an library loan of this magnitude!...
