Re: Some questions about "er" and "daar"

So I'm reading the rules on the usage of "er", but there aren't enough examples and some things aren't clear for me: 1) Interchangeability. For example, in many cases "er" can be substituted by "daar" (for more emphasis): "Ja, ik kom er regelmatig." "Ja, daar kom ik regelmatig." But in the followin...

Re: to let slip

"Het ontglipte me" is indeed a possibility, or "het ontschoot me". Or the other two as well, I guess. In any case, always that same grammatical construction.

Re: Ze gaat ook al een stukje langer mee dan mij

Overigens moet het eigenlijk "langer dan ik" zijn, niet "dan mij", maar die fout maken veel mensen.

Re: het eens zijn (met)

It is a pronoun, sort of, but it's part of the fixed expression "het eens zijn met". The only thing you could replace it with is, in some cases, "dat" instead of "het" (as in, "Dat ben ik (niet) met je eens"). In the word "eens", you can see the number "een", the idea is that you and the other perso...

Re: Correct me please

I would add that the "ga gaan" combination is possible, but within the more specific context of going to some event of some kind.

E.g.: "Jan geeft een feestje morgenavond, ga jij gaan?" "Ja, ik denk wel dat ik ga gaan."

And even then it's probably more informal spoken language.

Re: Sentences of Spring :)

I have written a few sentences in English and then I attempted to accurately translate them into Dutch sans google translate. Would appreciate corrections/changes. Thank you in advance. 2. The winding path of the park amidst branches of spring blooms caught my attention. Het De bochtig e wandelrout...

Re: tegen of aan

For "spreken" en "praten", definitely not "aan". Either "tegen" or "met". For "zeggen", both "aan" and "tegen" are possible, I'm inclined to say that "aan" is more formal/written and "tegen" more informal/spoken language. For "vertellen", definitely "aan". It's a bit hard to explain, but the way I l...

Re: af

Can I say Ik ga af No, because it means something else. Afgaan is the basic verb. Ik ga af means 'I do something awkward/clumsy' (and that is recognised by others). You can say Ik ga naar beneden . This is my opinion which is not necessarily true but here you can only find two meanings of afgaan : ...

No, you can't. Needs to be "ervan".

Also, "ik hou" is far more common than "ik houd" - "houd" is of course correct in principle, but you're not likely to hear anyone say it, or see anyone write it.

Re: Wat betekent: in de lucht brengen

You're sure that it's not "aan het licht brengen", which means what KrisPa said, and is certainly a much more common expression?

I guess it could make sense for a website, since it's just a different way of saying "lanceren", which is indeed common enough just like English "launch".

Re: What is the right translation

The first one, "wel" can never negate something - or rather, it can only ever negate a negation ("Dit zijn geen historische romans." - "Jawel, dit zijn wel historische romans!"). It's hard to say what the "wel" is doing in the sentence in this case, because there is no context - it's not clear what ...

Re: andere vraag over 'er'

Think of it as the "there" in "How many people are there in the Netherlands?" It's not entirely the same of course, in English that "there" works with the verb "to be" only for the most part, while in Dutch it can also work with other verbs, like "wonen" here, but that gives you an idea.
