Post by zdo » Mon Jan 07, 2013 2:20 pm

** Excuse me if I've chosen wrong forum section: I didn't found any music-related place here.

I'm searching for old folk dutch songs. My knowledge of dutch culture is bad, so can someone help me to find old, native folk songs of Dutch region?

For example, what I mean under old folk song:

Flanders has a lot more of that than the Netherlands. In part that is because protestantism frowned upon anything that was not a Psalm or a hymn. Partly also because folk music died off more quickly in NL in the later half of the 19th and earlier half of the 20st century. Add to that that the NSB (the nazi party) put a lot of emphasis on folk music and you may understand that after WWII there was not much alive in the Netherlands. There is an archive of it, see e.g. http://www.liederenbank.nl/ and the Antwerps Liedboek (http://www.dbnl.org/tekst/_ant001antw01_01/) is actually the oldest compilation of folk songs that appeared in print. Period.
