1) De voetbalspeler werd in het strafschopgebied onderuitgehaald. (The football player was... in the penalty box)
2) Zijn werk werd genadeloos onderuitgehaald. (His work was ... mercilessly)
3) een tegenstander onderuit halen / een tegenstander onderuithalen

I don't know how to translate the verb " onderuithalen" (it is also written as "onderuit halen")

Bring down or take down is probably the best translation - both literally and figuratively. Though I guess you still wouldn't use it like in that second sentence, in English...
