I don't know how to translate " to beat a carpet".
Example: Before Easter I beat all the carpets in my house (in my back garden).

carpet = 1) het tapijt
2) het karpet, het vloerkleed

Ik zou er "het (vloer)kleed uitkloppen" van maken. Het voorwerp waarmee het gebeurt (of vaker, gebeurde) heet een "mattenklopper".
