How do you say daddy-long-legs in Dutch? How many ways are there to say "thank you" or "you're welcome"? Post everything about vocabulary here.

What's the Dutch verb for " to hit" in the following sentence?
The smell hit me as I entered the room. = De geur ... toen ik de kamer binnenkwam.

Difficult, I'm not sure whether there *is* a clear word for that in Dutch. I think I would go with "overvallen" - De geur overviel me toen ik de kamer binnenkwam

Another option is in het gezicht slaan, although I think that this expression is more common with heath than with smell. If it's a strong and bad smell, you can use it, but than we'd rather use stank instead of geur.

The stank sloeg me in het gezicht toen ik de kamer binnenkwam.
