Can Someone Translate This Antique Writing?

How do you say daddy-long-legs in Dutch? How many ways are there to say "thank you" or "you're welcome"? Post everything about vocabulary here.

Can Someone Translate This Antique Writing?

Post by AlexC » Mon Jun 19, 2017 9:11 pm

I found this writing on the back of an old painting. I don't know if it's Dutch (maybe German).

Can someone translate this for me, or tell me what language it is?

Check the photo for the writing. Thanks.

They look more like names to me. Not particular Dutch nor German.

Can you tell me what language it is (since it's not German or Dutch)?

I don't think that "Dah gre ess" is a name, but some of the others may be.

But it would be a big help if I knew what language this was written in.

To be honest, it is so illegible, I can hardly read the letters, is there a chance for a better photo?

Here's a photo with better contrast. The original writing is very faded.

Does any of it make any sense? And is the language recognizable?

I cannot read it and it does not look Dutch.

It reminds me of German handwriting though

Have a look at https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deutsche_ ... chrift.JPG

I'm not sure if it's old German writing. I'm currently searching for my family and some 'e's look like 'v'. So my guess would be:

Eatz/Datz bland/blond
Eatz/Datz gre ess
Blest Worft
Golbe pin
Gole Tiscka

To me it's gibberish!

To me this is a list of full names written by the same person.

Thanks. I think that BrutallyFrank and estarling might be right. It could be a list of proper names written by the same person. I don't know why there would be a list on the back of a painting though. Thanks again for your help.
