Dutch alternative-rock bands.

Recommendations and opinions of books, dictionaries, programs, movies, shows, comedy, video players (region issues), music, websites, courses, where to buy Dutch stuff if you don't live there, etc.

Dutch alternative-rock bands.

Post by leke » Fri Mar 08, 2013 6:55 pm

Hi, I'm into melodic, altgernative-rock (aka indi) bands like...

Guided by Voices: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZV1fPyh53Ik
Breeders: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o9hAS2uHG_I
Metric: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HQ3rvg7KQxQ
GBV: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IlZlst4NBVw

...and I was wondering if there were any Dutch (language) bands that were similar?

Thanks. :)

Hier staat een lijstje, maar ik weet niet precies of dat is wat je bedoelt: http://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indie_%28m ... Vlaanderen.

Thanks Vilmos, that was what I was after :)
I went through the list on youtube, but the only band I found singing in Dutch was Spinvis. The Spinvis vocals are very clear so it will be easy for me to follow.

Seeing that the TS is from Finland: you have some great bands there ...

Where to start with Dutch bands ... you might find some here: http://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indierock_in_Nederland or http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dutch_rock#Indie_rock. You could also check out:
- De Dijk
- Tröckener Kecks
- Raccoon
- Supersub/Moke
- Cooper
(not indie, but funny (although quite rough language): Régah Buigahs from The Hague)

Many more, but this is a good start ...

btw Curious about your opinion on Robert Pollard's try on Phantom Tollbooth's "Powertoy" ...

I have to admit, I'm a bit of a fair weather fan of GBV, but ask me anything about the Breeders :P

There's a pretty decent article in MOJO about the Breeders this month ...

In the Netherlands most rock bands are still using English as a means.
While the rap scene is almost 100 % in dutch.

Dutch language rockbands:

Blof
De Dijk
Tröckener Kecks
De Kast
Van Dik Hout
Heidevolk
De Mens
Noordkaap
Gorki
