Spelling Checking software?

Ideas for learning Dutch. What have you tried? What worked for you? What did not work for you?

Spelling Checking software?

Postby Fria » March 10th, 2011, 7:38 pm

I've been recommended to get one - it's supposed to help when I practice my Dutch ... but no idea where to find it?
I have Slovenian MS Office 2007, original - and I know Dutch MS Office has the spelling checking software, but I don't want to overdrive my Office ... it's hard enough to learn commands in one lang :-P And mine is official, so it updates regularly 8) Which I want to keep this way.
Can anyone please tell me how to get a program/website that automatically checks and/or corrects writing in Dutch?
Dank je wel =D>

Try OpenOffice or LibreOffice. They both use the same engine and you can install language packs separately. It's mostly compatible with MS Office, but not entirely. More complex stuff like macro's may not work.

Note: both are completely free, no hidden backdoors, traps or other nasty stuff. Nor does it collect your personal data for marketing and other commercial/criminal purposes... ;)

In firefox, you can have your spelling checked by adding this add-on: https://addons.mozilla.org/nl/firefox/a ... ederlands/

And if you use this, you might wish to also add-on Dictionary Switcher, which lets you toggle easily between two languages, just in case you would like to sometimes spell-check in English instead.
