Hi Tom!Tom wrote:I am grateful that you participate in the game.
The object is not necessarily to win the game but for
players who are more shy than you are and less proficient than
you are, to be encouraged to express themselves in Dutch in order
to practice speaking it and build their confidence up. To do that, they
need a window of opportunity to come forward. Remember, they may be a
bit afraid to poke their nose in and we want them to overcome that fear.
So, keeping that in mind, I would appreciate you continuing to
participate in these games, (maybe host one yourself), and act
as a mentor, which, with your abilities should help the others to
break the ice and begin speaking and making sentences in Dutch.
I was only teasing you!
I am surprised because I am one of the shy ones. I suppose because I am stuck behind this screen and no one knows who I am, it kinda makes it easier. But you put me in front of a REAL life Dutch person and I would freeze totally, I would forget everything I ever learnt - I even get nervous around my partner. I had a couple of bad experiences when I learnt Dutch the first time, many years ago - and psychologically speeking, some of those memories are still with me. But I am trying slowly to overcome it, and I am a lot better than I was.
On here and 4 or 5 word sentences I can manage!
