Uploading sound files

Hoi allemaal,

If you would like to upload a sound file to a server that we all have access to, you can use an external host like http://www.esnips.com (the one that Joke is using). To use the services of an external host, you do need to sign up for your own account. It is not possible to upload files directly to the dutchgrammar.com server.

On eSnips, you can upload your files to:
1) A public folder: The entire world can listen to them.
2) A group folder: Only accessible to people who have your permission. This is very handy if you want to upload files for a selected audience only. ;-)
3) A private folder

Let us know where to find your sound file
Once you uploaded your sound file, you can post a link to it in this subforum so that we all know where to find it.

Recording a sound file
To record a text, you can download a free program called 'Audacity': http://audacity.sourceforge.net/download/.

To save the audio file in MP3 format, you also need a copy of the LAME MP3 encoder (which will integrate into your copy of Audacity). You can download this program here: http://www-users.york.ac.uk/~raa110/audacity/lame.html. This is just a dll-file.

On this page, you can read how to configure Audacity: http://www.jakeludington.com/podcasting ... dcast.html.

Recording your own voice is a great way to practice your Dutch. I would also like to encourage Dutch native speakers (Hollanders, Vlamingen, Achterhoekers, Limburgers, ..) to share sound files! Joke already uploaded several sound files here: http://www.esnips.com/web/jokekalisvaartsOtherStuff.

Who's next? :-)

With the MP3 button, you can play mp3 files in a small mp3 player.

If you want to link directly to an eSnips mp3 (play it in this forum's mediaplayer), you have to copy the correct link on the eSnips page.

Right-click on the 'Download File'  link under the mediaplayer on eSnips and select 'properties'. From here, you can copy the link to the mp3 file.

If you place the mp3 tages around the link, the mediaplayer will be able to play the file:

FAILED (the browser should render some flash content here, not this text).

[edit] That trick does not seem to work anymore :-( [/edit]

I re-installed Audacity on my new(er) computer (to get ready for the new show). The lame link above no longer works. I found it at http://lame.buanzo.com.ar/ .

Die link werkt inderdaad niet.

If you have an acount on eSnips uploading should work as follows:
- Choose "upload files" from the menu on the right.
- "Select file", find the file on your computer and click "Upload now".
- Then go to the folder where you put the file and click "share with the world" to make us able to listen to it.
- Then click on the file and share with us the link that's labeled URL:

Ik hoop dat het zo lukt, ik wil je graag horen :)

Ja, ik kan het nu wel downloaden, maar niet horen.

.aup files can not be opened without a load of other files that audacity produces.
You should export it as an mp3 and than upload that mp3 file.
To do so, you need a lame-encoder, see Dora's post above.

To save as an mp3, open your .aup file in audacity, choose file>export>mp3 and tell your computer where you saved the lame file. Then you can share the resulting mp3 file.

Alternatively you can create a .wav file, but those are usually huge...

Hoi,
Ik heb voor een lange tijd deze programma probeerd krijgen werken.
Ik wilde weten:

Is the AVS Audio Editor the same as Lame?

Lame is een codec om MP3 files te "maken". AVS audio editor is een programma om geluid te bewerken.

Ik denk overigens wel dat je met AVS ook gewoon geluid op kunt nemen.

Today a colleague of mine tried to install audacity and he accidently installed that AVS audio editor. That's a different (and not free) program, but somehow, the audacity website almost forces you to install that one instead of the free audacity. If you try to save sound in AVS without paying it keeps saying 'AVS demo' on top of your own sound, which makes the file useless. :-?
Everything I was explaining so far, was about audacity and doesn't work in AVS audio editor. Sorry for the confusion.

Audacity should looks like this:

Ik heb ook AVS audio editor. I downloaded it, as well as audacity. However, I don't think I had to pay for anything yet. So far, all I did was download it, so I guess it's OK. What do I need instead, to run with audacity to make esnips work?
