Translanting "would"

Post by ulsterbob » Wed Aug 08, 2012 1:50 am

I am starting to learn dutch. I find I am confused with the words zou and wil. They seem to be used as translation for "would."

How do you know the proper use of these two words?

Hallo Ulsterbob,

The information in this link is very helpful. It is posted in Dutch first, and the same thing is followed by an English translation.

Also, willen means to want.

Wil is a conjugated form in the present tense of the infinitive willen.

ik wil = I want

For example, Ik zou leren means I would learn.

Welkom!

Groetjes,

Cathleen
