How to understand fast Dutch speaking?

So I'm taking dutch lessons and I can only understand to slow speaking dutch. So to improve my dutch I thought of watching some videos on youtube. When I saw them, I was not at all able to follow what they are saying. It almost feels like they are rapping. Take this video for example:-

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kROwAXUM_5o

Even though I try and get the words that they are saying, I have to put those words in order in my mind, then translate it and then make it sensible. This whole process takes like two minutes. How do I improve this listening and processing skills?

There is no other way than practising really. You should start with something quite simple, check out De Delfse Methode voor Buitenlanders, it should be available with a textbook and a CD, it consists of over 30 texts, as far as I recall, they are read out quite slowly and clearly, after listening to a text your can check it out in the book and practice your vocabulary as well. Then you can proceed to something harder. Just make sure that you have a good sound system, a pair of headphones and listen to different stuff on a daily basis. Your listening will be gradually improving, it seems hard only at the beginning.

You could also search for Jeugdjournaal or Klokhuis

I'm not even able to follow what they are saying :(

While Dutch language has a huge amount of synonyms and they make full use of every single one
in a longer dialog or text, it is supposed that one has to learn more or less 10000 words to get
a fluent understanding of a, let say, usual NOS Journaal. Now, it is easy for you to estimate
when you will be able to have a pretty fair understanding of this language at a standard speed.

I have no idea what you're talking about.

I guess Estarling is saying that he should take a few steps back and learn more words before trying to attempt to use vids like this. I tend to agree ... if these kids vids are already too fast, it may be wise to take a few steps back and study the basics. Don't forget that some people have more talent to learn languages then others ...

Don't let it hold you back, Peter ... it's why we're here

Well, predispositions don't really vary, each person can learn a language if they really want to, it's more about persistence en interest. If you are trying to master Dutch just because somebody forces you to do so while you don't want it, you're not gonna succeed, I'm afraid.

Well I'm learning dutch from this website called duolingo.com. I'm learning because I'm a dutch person but I grew up here in Dubai. I'm planning to settle in the Netherlands in future but I have to learn dutch for communication. Is duolingo good or is there anything better?

Well Dolo, I am foreigner learning Dutch through English.
It is my feeling that for learning Dutch, one needs a much larger vocabulary to get
the same level of understanding comparing with his English.
This because, for every English word he knows, Dutch people may use 2 or 3 Dutch equivalents in the same speech.
Thus understanding a higher level (B2, C1) speech in Dutch, at least for me, it is very difficult and challenging.

Sorry for being so vague in my first posting. I hope that this time I found a better way to express my view.

No need to apologise dude, I get you. I'm also learning Dutch through English (kind of) and it's pretty true that Dutch people use a lot of different words to express various things, but here, we're talking about learning how to understand speaking. For the most part, it comes down to hard work and persistence. Three years ago I couldn't understand a single word from RTL Late Night, now I'm able to make sense out of the whole conversation.
Just trying to encourage Peter Van to look for easier materials and to start out slowly. Then he can build his way up through harder materials so that he eventually can dive into regular radio broadcasts, TV shows etc.

Lol I feel like everyone is rapping in RTL late night. When I run it in slow motion too I can't understand much. I'm learning from this website called duolingo.com. Is it good? Where did you learn from Dolo?

I haven't used Duolingo. I use everything I stumble upon. At the early stages I used the book I've already mentioned and then I dived straight into radio broadcasts, TV programs etc.
Practice makes perfect, as the cliche proverb says.
