Help! Difference difficulty level NT2-I vs. NT2-II

Hello,

I took the reading and listening parts of NT2-II a month ago and I just got my results. Turned out I passed reading but not listening (496 points <500 required) :-( I still have to take the speaking and writing parts for the first time.
I am not required to take the NT2-II as I am doing the exam only to be able to show evidence when applying for a Dutch passport. I am now wondering if I should: 1) Take the listening exam NT2-I INSTEAD of doing again the NT2-II I failed, and 2) take the Spreken and Schrijven NT2-I exams INSTEAD of NT2-II. Does anyone know if any of this parts is significantly easier in the NT2-I? It's hard to tell from the voorbeeldexamen, especially now that the Writing part of NT2-II has changed.

Many thanks in advance!

Juanita

Staatsexamen NT2 programma 2 (taalniveau B1) is moeilijker - veel moeilijker!

Hi Juanita,

I have a friend who registered for both exams at the same time and passed both. According to her, there is only a slight difference in Dutch level between both exams. Once you can do the NT2-1, then you can also do the NT2-2.

Cheers,
Lynn

Thank you!

I actually passed the Spreken and Schrijven parts of NT2-II, so now I only have to do again listening for NT2-I. I followed the advice of someone on the forum and registered for NT2-I before getting my NT2-II results, which is safe but not a good idea on the financial side, as they will only cancel your registration and return your money if you let them know with 7 weeks in advance!

I would say Spreken is not easy but they are very lenient with the grading, as I felt that I couldn't possibly passed after the est was finished but somehow I did (well, statistics don't lie, this part of the NT2-II exam has the highest passing rates (over 80%), while listening has the lowest (slightly over 50%).

I do hope it is easier because I am unable to really improve my score on the voorbeeldexamen for NT2-II listening, will try to do a a couple of NT2-I to cheer me up before my test on September 1st!

After having taking both the listening modules for the NT2-I and NT2-II I most say the NT2-I is considerably easier, in that you can discriminate better between a) b) c) options and the vocabulary is easier. Unlike the voorbeeld tests available online, in the real listening NT2-I exam I got a lot of questions (perhaps 10) where there were 3 pictures to choose from (similar to questions with pictures on the speaking part). These were of course relatively easier.

m.v.g.,

Wait, isn't NT2 programma 2 is B2 and NT2 programma 1 is B1?

Yes, you're right.
NT2 [this abbreviation is a bit misleading, because there is no "NT1"; NT2 means 'Nederlands als 2e (tweede) taal'] programma I ~ CEF(R)-B1
NT2 programma II ~ CEF(R)-B2
