Staatsexamen I - How to use the Computer?

NT2 is 'Nederlands als Tweede Taal' or 'Dutch as a second language. 'Inburgering' is 'integration'. Many people who settle in the Netherlands have to do the 'inburgeringsexamen' or 'Staatsexamen NT2'. In this subforum, you can ask questions about this exam. If you have already done the exam, you are warmly invited to share your experience with us!

Staatsexamen I - How to use the Computer?

Post by Lynn » Fri Aug 24, 2012 6:38 pm

I will be going for my Staatsexamen I next week. I have been self-studying for the past month. Although I have received a pamphlet for the exam, it does not explain into detail. I hope that anyone who has done the exam recently will be kind enough to inform me on how it goes. Thank you very much!

I know that three components (Reading, Listening, Speaking) will be done through the computer. I am concerned about :-

(1) For the Reading and Listening modules - Say I have chosen an answer. With the click of the mouse, I carry on to the next questions and answer them too. But later, I decide I want to change that particular answer. Is it possible to change the answer, or is it based on a "once you click it, it is final" concept?

(2) For the Reading and Listening modules - Is it possible to recheck the questions and answers by pressing on the "back" button on the keyboard?

(3) For the Writing - is there is a minimum word limit? I realise in order to minimise mistakes, I try to write the least I can (not sure though if this is a good idea).

Hi Lynn

Here you will find inormation about the exam.
http://www.cve.nl/item/wat_is_het_staatsexamen_nt2

Of course you should find a teacher who can inform you.
There are test-exams as well, but writing and speaking part of the exam can only be tested by a qualified NT2-teacher.

Success!

Now that I have done the Staatsexamen I, I shall attempt to answer my own questions in case anyone should be interested :) The website http://www.cve.nl/item/wat_is_het_staatsexamen_nt2 does not address the issues I was concerned about.

(1) For the Reading and Listening modules, it is possible to change your answer anytime. This really helped a lot! :)

(2) For the Listening and Speaking modules, it is possible to click the "back" button on the keyboard to answer questions which were previously not answered.

(3) For the Writing, there is no minimum or maximum word limit. However the instructions state that anything written out of the borders (they have boxes wherein you write your answers) will not be marked.

Hi Lynn,
Next week i am going to take this exam. So i am wondering whether the following things are right. Can you please answer these?
Did you get a booklet in your reading and speaking modules?
I've heard that in the reading and speaking modules you get a booklet with texts but the questions are all in the computer. Is that right?
In the listening module you have also a booklet or not? Or you had to spend all the time concentrating on the monitor?
For all these modules were you able to look at the next question in advance?
In the writing module you get at the beginning of the exam two parts for 2 hours or you get the first part and then 1 hour later you have the second?
Thank you in advance!
Wish you luck met the exam's result.

In the listening module you have also a booklet or not? NO

Hi everyone,

I apologize for the late reply as I did not check the forum earlier.

To Bert, I will not be doing the Staatsexamen II. Rather I will be studying on my own. It does not matter what my results for the Staatsexamen I is. I think one exam is sufficient and I am in no hurry to speed through another exam. It was quite hectic studying within a month.

Glad to say though, because of the crash studying, my learning curve of Dutch went higher all at once.

Now I am concentrating on reading the newspapers at my own pace :)

Thank you for the help of everyone in the forum.

Lynn
