Can I skype someone in a different country for free? I am in the USA. Can I use skype to contact someone in England for free? I know it's free within the US but is it free between countries? Thanks.

Certainly. It's over the internet, so it doesn't matter what country the other person is in. You only have to pay when you use Skype's ability to actually call someone's phone.

I.e. landline or mobile phone yes ('Skype Out').
Alledgedly there are some other (free) programs available cheaper in that respect (at least so I am told by friends who use this function, I don't use that myself actually so you' d have to check the rates for yourself to be sure

)

One of them would be voipcheap.
It has several destinations that are marked free, i.e. calling a landline to those countries from certain countries is also free.

I have used both voipcheap and skype only with free international calling, the quality of the line for both was about the same to me.
