opgenomen worden- to be admitted (hospital)

Regular verbs, irregular verbs, auxiliary verbs, compound verbs... When do we use which tense? What about those strange constructions the Dutch use to make a continuous? "Staat" my book on the shelf or "ligt" it? Ask all about Dutch verbs here.

opgenomen worden- to be admitted (hospital)

I found on www.antosch-and-lin.com 2 exemple sentences about the using of this expression:
1-Hij moest worden opgenomen in het ziekenhuis na het eten van bedorven voedsel-He was admitted to a hospital after he had eaten bad food
2-Zij overleed gisteren, 20 uur nadat zij opgenomen was in het ziekenhuis, na een auto ongeluk.-She passed away yesterday, 20 hours after she was admitted into hospital following a car crash.
I didn't understand where it is the word "worden" in the second sentence and, if is not, why? How can you understand that is about that expression in the second sentence?
Thank you!
