Mastering the dutch accent

[spelling en uitspraak]
How do you pronounce 'gezellig'? What is the difference between 'eu' and 'ui'? How do you write...? You can use the phonetic keyboard if you are familiar with phonetic symbols.
[Jan. 12, 2008: due to the forum update, the phonetic keyboard has been temporarily disabled.]

Mastering the dutch accent

Post by Styx » Mon Mar 12, 2012 8:29 pm

Hi guys, could you suggest a me a book that can help me improve my dutch accent? You know something that explains in depth how words are pronounced and stuff because I don't know how to read yet except for some words I've learned using Rosetta Stone
I've found this one http://www.bol.com/nl/p/nederlandse-boe ... index.html but I don't know how good it is maybe it's too advanced?

Well, I think that's a very good tool to improve your pronunciation.

This website also has a detailed guide on the pronunciation of Dutch letters and words:

I agree with Burt this site can really help you and also have you considered doing a simple conversational course? I have a good teacher based in holland who teaches over skype and it has made such a difference to my prouncation all ready and I have only had 5 20 minute lessons. She also does a Dutch email course and very cheap by email and there is a lot of prouncation drills, conversations interaction. Check it out at http://www.sayitindutch.com. If you want any more information just private message me.

Concerning this site buying the ebook is very good as you get all the soundbyes to go with it. It has over 300 pages so takes some time to print out. I am still in the process of printing it out but it has everything you need to know about Dutch.
