nti les 1 - text 1 - helpen alstjeblieft

Postby Shazzy » June 30th, 2012, 3:08 pm

Hallo
Kan je met deze zinnen helpen?

This phrases are in my first text and I have tried my best to work them out. Are they correct? I am trying to get a good understanding of the text in order to answer the questions so I need to know if I have translated them into English correctly.

In het begon vond ik het wel gek om weer naar school to gaan
In the beginning I found it strange to go to school again

Maar iedereen zit in hetzelfde schuitje, dus dat went al gauw
But everyone was in the same boat, so we adjusted quickly

Dat kan ik wel begrijpen, maar stel dat er nou eens wat ergs gebeurt thuis? Dan wil je dat toch meteen weten?
I can understand, but imagine if something had happened at home then you would want to know straightaway

Nou ja, echt streng zijn de meeste docenten gelukkig niet.
Fortunately, most of the teachers are not really strict.

Want het gebeurt natuurlijk toch regelmatig dat iemand vergeet dat ding uit te doen en dan gebeld wordt in de les.
Because it happens regularly that somebody forgets to turn it off and then people phone in the lesson.

Bedankt

Shazzy

"gebeurt" is present tense, so it should be "something happens" rather than "something had happened"

After off "... and then they get phoned during the lesson" would be a better translation.

Bedankt Andreengels
Niet zo slecht :D alleen een paar fouten =D>

Ik heb een paar meer:
Tekst twee was gemakkelijker :D

MOEILIJK DOEN OVER
Easy going, don't mind

De zin was...
Daar doen de meeste docenten niet moeilijk over

GELUK HEBBEN MET
have luck

GOED KUNNEN OPSCHIETEN MET IEMAND
to get on with everyone

De zin was..... Ik kan met iiedereen goed opschieten.

KRITIEK HEBBEN
to criticise

Dit zin was niet gemakkelijker te begrijpen.....

En ze hadden alleen maar kritiek, ze zeiden nooit eens wat positiefs. Die hoef ik dus echt niet meer te zien.
And they said nothing positive only criticized. It was not nice to see.

I almost don't want to ask this question but...... it was in the text and I am not being rude

Does the word "Trut" (trutten in plural) mean silly cow - bitch? I did find it in the dictionary but just wanted to confirm it.
I promise I wont ever use it in holland [-X

The rest I understood perfectly so I was well impressed..... Now I have some writing exercises to do......

Bedankt

Only is translated with maar if you want to express a small quantity. See also this post.

Ik heb er een paar meer:
Tekst twee was gemakkelijker :D
We often use er in sentences that contain a quantity. See also this grammar page.

MOEILIJK DOEN OVER
Easy going, don't mind

Daar doen de meeste docenten niet moeilijk over
Rather the opposite.
moeilijk = difficult
moeilijk doen = make a fuss about something
The sentence translates to something like "Most teachers don't make a big problem out of that".
I'm not sure if that's the best way of saying it in English but I hope you get what I mean.

GELUK HEBBEN MET
have luck

GOED KUNNEN OPSCHIETEN MET IEMAND
to get on with someone

De zin was..... Ik kan met iedereen goed opschieten.
I get along with everyone

KRITIEK HEBBEN
to criticise

Deze zin was niet gemakkelijker te begrijpen.....

En ze hadden alleen maar kritiek, ze zeiden nooit eens wat positiefs. Die hoef ik dus echt niet meer te zien.
And they said nothing positive only criticized. It was not nice to see. Literally: Those (people) I really don't need to see anymore.
The last part is a way to express that you don't want to see someone anymore.

I almost don't want to ask this question but...... it was in the text and I am not being rude

Yes, trut is one of the most common unfriendly words to address a woman.
