Need help! questions about basic level 1 dutch

Hi, I live in Belgium and ofcourse was told I need to do a social orientation class and take Dutch courses. I have my social orientation done but I am supposed to go to the office of the people that are making me do this (inburg something) and do a "dutch test" with the lady there to see if I need classes. She said if I could pass and if I knew my level 1 of dutch I would not need to take classes. My question is what is level 1? Basic Dutch? What do I need to know? How much of the language do I need to know? Has anybody here taken the level 1 test before or something like this?

any kind of help would be greatly appreciated!

yea, nobody wants to help so I found some stuff on my own. I don't know if my test will be like this but this was very helpful to me. It showed me what my weaknesses are and my strengths. It's a test from a university in Leuven, Belgium about NT2 and AV1 and AV2. So if anybody reads this and needs to know the same answers as me take this test to help you see what you need to improve on!

Hello Swinne!

Thank you for the useful links. I think the problem is that most of the native speakers here are from the Netherlands that's why they can't help you (you are in Belgium, aren't you).
However, there's a Dutch teacher who checks this part of the forum about once a week, he may be able to tell you what to do.

Certainly we want to help. The native speakers on this site don't necessarily have any expertise with the "inburgering", though - it's the people who actually have done them who have the most experience, really. As Bert mentioned, we do in fact have one regular member who works in "inburgering" professionally, so he knows a lot about it, but in the Netherlands, not in Belgium. The rest of us just has to rely on Googling, just like yourself. Also, this forum is relatively small in terms of members and post numbers - it's entirely normal if it takes a day or two to get a reply.

Anyway, I did Google some, this and this might help some, but I couldn't really find anything on which level you'd have to have before they stop requiring a Dutch course. If it helps, the various levels are described here. Of course those sites all talk about the language classes as if they're a favour that the government is granting you - which they sort of are, considering the very low price, but if you're looking at it from a "I want to avoid classes if at all possible" perspective, the sites aren't very helpful in making clear what level you have to have before you can skip them altogether. Looks like it'd be a pretty high one, though.

I took my test, and I passed it.

I didn't want to do dutch classes because that would mean I would have the car and my husband would have drive his motorcycle during the winter and I'm not making him do that. So I studied on my own and went to my house of dutch lady and she tested me and said I did very well and passed. The links I gave in the previous comment is basically what the test is, just a higher level. So if you can do those links with ease then you are just fine with basic dutch. But I'll tell what my test was incase someone wants to know. She asked me to tell her about myself in Dutch and asked my about my hobby and what I was going to do tomorrow and then the weather and how the weather is back home where I am from. Then I did the written portion which was just questions and reading the article and answering correctly.

I was nervous and freaked out for nothing. blah

yes, I would like to get fluent in Dutch... eventually. I know it's going to take a long time but I'm going to keep trying.

Hi Swinne
That is my aim and I live in England

I started as a beginner but now I have GCSE which is an English qualification. It is around A2 level. I gained a B grade so very happy. I am now working for my NT2. I am doing a correspondence course with NTI and I admit it is hard work but very good and interesting. I also have skype lessons with a lovely lady from Grongingen every week which helps my talking.
