What is the difference between makkelijk and gemakkelijk?

For example
Het zal niet gemakkelijk zijn

Can I say
Het zal niet makkelijk zijn

Are these words just synonyms or there is some difference?

These words are synonyms, but gemakkelijk is used more often in written language and makkelijk in spoken language.
