Question about a text exercise

Would you like to learn Dutch in exchange for teaching your native language? Are you a native Dutch speaker and are you looking for someone who can help you with studying English? Or Russian? Japanese? Post it here!

Question about a text exercise

Post by isi90 »

Dear all,
I need to write a text for my Dutch course. The topic should be the following:

"Welk inzicht uit je vakgebied kan anderen helpen in het dagelijks leven?"

However, I don't understand that well what do they mean with this question.

Can anyone help me?

"Welk inzicht uit je vakgebied kan anderen helpen in het dagelijks leven?"

I'll try to explain. When you got your specialism (vakgebied) you most likely have encountered some situation (an epiphany?) which made the stereotypical lightbulb burn ( :!: ). What they are asking of you is what insight/idea/way of thinking/angle/etc. did that give you? And how can that help others in their daily life?

An example: In the 1800s Ignaz Semmelweis noticed that women giving birth at home had a much lower incidence of childbed fever than those giving birth in the doctor's maternity ward. His investigation discovered that washing hands with an antiseptic solution before a delivery reduced childbed fever fatalities by 90%.
Vakgebied: Medicine
Inzicht: Reducing childbed fever by washing hands
Helpen in het dagelijkse leven: Learning people to be more hygienic by washing their hands
"Moenie worrie nie, alles sal reg kom" (maar hy het nie gesê wanneer nie!)
