Would you like to learn Dutch in exchange for teaching your native language? Are you a native Dutch speaker and are you looking for someone who can help you with studying English? Or Russian? Japanese? Post it here!

Looking for a native (US) English speaker who wants to learn Dutch

Post by marcelv »

Hi!

I am looking for a native English speaker I can talk with to improve my English speaking and writing. In exchange I would be happy to help you improve your Dutch (Dutch is my first language). I can understand English pretty good (I think), but my writing and speaking needs improvement.

Looking forward to get in touch with you!

Cheers,
Marcel

Unfortunately, my Dutch is not yet to the point I could even remotely hope to carry my side in such an exchange, however I can help you with one thing, right away: That should have been "I can understand English pretty well" or "My understanding of English is pretty good."

Not to worry. It's a grammatical error many native English speakers often make. Here's an explanation of which, "good" or "well," is appropriate in which context, and why: Good vs. Well

For English readers learning Dutch: There is no such distinction. "Goed" is used regardless. "Dat ziet er goed uit" - "That looks good." "Ik voel me niet zo goed" - "I don't feel well." "Goed gedaan!" - "Well done!" "Goed zo!" - "(That's) good!"

I hope this helps :)
Mijn excuses dat mijn Nederlands nog niet zo goed is :(

My mother tongue isn't English, but almost, as I've learnt it with family since I was a child. I can't start exchanging in Dutch right now as I'm still to get a half-decent grasp of the language, and as I'll regularly go abroad this winter to take my boss in places like this property in Southern Cyprus, but by spring, I think I'll be able to take part in such a deal!
