past participle as adjective

Post by Nederaar »

Dear all,

I enjoy the grammar tutorial on this site very much. But I couldn't find the page for "past participle as adjective", which is exemplified as:
"De bereisde weg - the road traveled"

Could anyone point me to that page?

(I could instead find "present participle as adjective": https://www.dutchgrammar.com/en/?n=Verbs.Ot08)

Thank you!

Hi Nederaar,

There is indeed no separate page on that topic. It behaves precisely the same way as any other adjective, so if you know how to form a past participle (https://www.dutchgrammar.com/en/?n=Verbs.Re12) you will be able to use it as an adjective.

It will be good to add this to the chapter 'Adverbs and adjectives' (which is currently covered by Wim Voortman's Word document). Note taken!

hier is het artikel over de past participle
https://www.dutchgrammar.com/en/?n=Verbs.Re12
verder gedraagt het zich als een gewoon adjectief.
-e erbij indien m/v, zoniet (onzijdig, het) onveranderd.

betreffende de "past participle" ...
ik heb gebloed = OK
maar als adjectief is het bijvoorbeeld: "de bebloede vloer => dat geval met "be-" is niet beschreven.
Dus past participle als adjectief is net ietje anders, soms, dus. ;-) of ?

- de bereisde weg
- de vervlogen tijd
- het verloren kind
- het gedoogde beleid
- ...
